The Canal Pirate had a three day Journey from Salt House Docks to Maghull on The Leeds & Liverpool Canal. The trip could of be done in a day. Can’t say it was fun as battered by a Storm called Freya. Got trapped by a powered Swing Bridge, and a carpet got caught round the propeller. So stayed one night in Litherland and one Night near Aintree, Sefton, When I got passed the swing bridge on the third Morning, the Canal was blocked by two Cranes dredging, and the CRT Contractors waste Barges.
I was forced to move along the Toe Paths edge and had to be towed by a CRT Tug about 15 Meters. Which funnily enough kept getting stuck on clay as well. So basically it worked out an hour a Mile traveling the beast. And I will avoid Tuesdays moving on The Leeds and Liverpool Canal in future.
I would advise people be careful on the Liverpool Link. Sadly years of neglect and morons dumping their rubbish, household furniture and rubbish in the Canal, mean a journey which should be simple can be treacherous. Also having a Tree Branch fall on my new Pram Cover and rip it was another unexpected horror. Plus countless felled Trees and Branches from Storm Freya.
As a new Boater It was quite experience, and will have a 4 week break from the Cut. And get used to my new Home Mooring. I have met some lovely people on the trip Graham and his Wife, Graham who helped me navigate The Liverpool Canal Link, The CRT staff at Litherland and crew of Pride Of Sefton 2. So do not regret this journey as it’s a steep learning Curve. My Dog though seemed to be surprised each day going for a walk in a new location.
